Estonian Business School's (EBS) student and vice-chairman Grete Mägi was elected to the board of Federation of Estonian Student Unions (FESU) in the sphere of educational politics.
FESU council had elections yesterday in IT College and the new chairman of the board was elected to be Joonas Pärenson from Tallinn University. The vice-chairman was elected to be Allan Päll from Tartu University and member of the board in the social politics sphere Olga Tšerjomuškina from Tartu Ülikool. The board has a mandate from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
It is the first time in the history of FESU that one of the EBS's students is elected to the board. This only confirms the fact that both EBS and its student council are as a considerable and loyal partner also on the national level. There is also no private university which students have belonged to the board for such a long time.
"I am going to FESU to break old concepts and systems that don't work anymore. FESU itself is the students and it has to always be one step ahead and be the flagship. In the field of educational politics one of my priorities will be dealing with the post-graduates and also a very thorough research which has to be conducted in this field to help Estonia move towards an intelligent and knowledge-based society," commented Grete Mägi her priorities in the FESU board. "Also one of this year's most important subjects is improving the quality of higher education and everything related to it. Of course, the scope of work will be huge, but frankly this is the biggest motivator."
Federation of Estonian Student Unions (FESU) was founded on November 23, 1991. FESU's main goal is to represent students' rights, educational and social issues and students' interests on national level.
